New Year... New Coach... New Goalie

The clock hit midnight for Glenn Patrick as he is out as coach of the
Wheeling Nailers after spending three seasons behind the bench.
During his tenure Patrick compiled an 86-75-3-12 record.
Patrick will still remain with the Nailers organization but just not as a coach.

A replacement will be made at a press conference tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
at the Nailers office on Main Street.

Although former Toledo Storm coach, Nick Vitucci seems to be a front-runner
at this time. Rumors also have Derek Clancey, who coached the Jackson Bandits
and the Reading Royals in the ECHL and was an assistant coach for the
Manchester Monarchs of the AHL. Clancey is now a scout in the
Pittsburgh Penguins organization. Also rumored is former UHL
(Fort Wayne and Chicago) coach Greg Puhalski
.

More on this story as it develops.

The Nailers also made a trade with the Charlotte Checkers getting Goalie,
Curtis Darling. Darling spent time in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch
appearing in relief for one game making 4 saves on 4 shots.

I agree that the blame doesn't lie with Coach Patrick. He is a great coach. The guys really need to find some chemistry. Hopefully the next coach will help that.

This was posted this on the wbspenguins message board.

Boogaard, Croxton, and D'Aversa were all sent down to Wheeling after being coached by Richards, not Patrick.

Jensen was coached by both and is currently down.

Havern, Letestu, Bissonette, Rank, Brown, Curry, Henrich were all called UP after being coached by Patrick... THIS season.

The only one that didn't stick was Neddy Havern, and I'm not even sure he has what it takes to stick in the AHL anyway or if he is a career ECHLer.

Actually if you look at the WBS roster, you'll notice 7 of the current Baby Penguins have been coached by Patrick.

That's pretty good to have that many players moving up, as an organization that's what you want. Wheeling is the low-man on the totem pole of course it will effect our play.

Once those guys were called up, WBS started to catch fire as Wheeling burnt out.

And considering Glenn took the Baby Pens to the AHL Finals. That's something to be grateful for since it's never happened to this team with any other coach. He's also the first coach to advance in the playoffs in Wheeling since God knows when. As a fan, all I'm saying is that he deserves a just little respect for his accomplishments in Wheeling and WBS.

Sidenote:
Wheeling hasn't ever won a championship, but they have sent 31 players to the NHL, not 21. That's most in the ECHL.
